The Wild Robot by Peter Brown (2016) is an appealing novel for kids 8 to 12 and/or as a family read aloud with lots of time for conversation。 Yes, there is a robot。 Not a ‘wild’ robot - more of a robot in the ‘wild’。 That is if a forest on an island with ducks, beavers, deer, moles, groundhogs, sparrows, and many other forest animals could be considered the ‘wild’。 There are no humans。 Yet, lots of provocative and intriguing situations humans can ponder regarding the robot and her relationships The Wild Robot by Peter Brown (2016) is an appealing novel for kids 8 to 12 and/or as a family read aloud with lots of time for conversation。 Yes, there is a robot。 Not a ‘wild’ robot - more of a robot in the ‘wild’。 That is if a forest on an island with ducks, beavers, deer, moles, groundhogs, sparrows, and many other forest animals could be considered the ‘wild’。 There are no humans。 Yet, lots of provocative and intriguing situations humans can ponder regarding the robot and her relationships with the animals。 I really recommend it has a read aloud interspersed with open ended inquiry。 。。。more

I like this book, sometimes it made me sad like when Roz and Brightbill left by themselves。 Sometimes it made me happy, like when Roz and Brightbill are back together again。 It made me laugh when the animals pooped in Roz’s garden。 In my opinion, I gave this book a 9/10 and would recommend it to my friends and anyone who loves animals。 I can’t wait to read The Wild Robot Escapes。 I also liked Peter Brown’s kids books when I was little。 I want Peter Brown to also write some more big kids books fo I like this book, sometimes it made me sad like when Roz and Brightbill left by themselves。 Sometimes it made me happy, like when Roz and Brightbill are back together again。 It made me laugh when the animals pooped in Roz’s garden。 In my opinion, I gave this book a 9/10 and would recommend it to my friends and anyone who loves animals。 I can’t wait to read The Wild Robot Escapes。 I also liked Peter Brown’s kids books when I was little。 I want Peter Brown to also write some more big kids books for me to read。 Landon [age 8] 🤖🤖🤖 。。。more

It was a fun read aloud but not my favorite。 I felt the ending was a bit too sad。 Caroline's first words after I finished the chapter was, "That was an excellent marketing strategy"。 I'm pretty sure we will read the next one because my kids really enjoyed it, but I don't think it lived up to the hype。 It was a fun read aloud but not my favorite。 I felt the ending was a bit too sad。 Caroline's first words after I finished the chapter was, "That was an excellent marketing strategy"。 I'm pretty sure we will read the next one because my kids really enjoyed it, but I don't think it lived up to the hype。 。。。more

I can't wait for my daughter to get a little older so she can enjoy this story again with me。 Such a beautiful story with amazing messages。I was not expecting her being able to talk to the animals and becoming friends with the wildlife。 It was funny and heartfelt。 Loved it! Except for a startling chapter towards the end, this was such a lovely story。 I questioned why it’s considered “middle grade” until the disturbing climax chapter。 I think my young, precocious readers will like it (and they’re not sensitive to violence, which would be my only warning to those with young, sensitive readers)。

Perfect for a road trip with the grandkids

My Grade One class loved it 。 。 。 sadly it was the end of the year and we couldn't read the second book in this series but I recommended that they go get it from the library this summer to read with their family! I hated this book。 This book is so highly reviewed EVERYWHERE, so I was completely shocked at how bad it was。 The kids seemed to be at least mildly interested and I kept expecting something amazing to come out of it, so we kept reading, but I wish I'd given it up within the first 50 pages。 The first 100+ pages were incredibly boring, and nothing noteworthy happens。 Then I thought the book was starting to take a turn into something sweet and sentimental, but just as it got close it got painfully I hated this book。 This book is so highly reviewed EVERYWHERE, so I was completely shocked at how bad it was。 The kids seemed to be at least mildly interested and I kept expecting something amazing to come out of it, so we kept reading, but I wish I'd given it up within the first 50 pages。 The first 100+ pages were incredibly boring, and nothing noteworthy happens。 Then I thought the book was starting to take a turn into something sweet and sentimental, but just as it got close it got painfully boring again。 Then the death began。 So much death。 Corpses。 Body parts。 Guns。 Shootings。 Murder。 Beheadings。 Why? WHY? Who on earth is this book intended for? The beginning of the book read like an overly gentle book for a 5-year-old, and then it got so strange and gruesome。 Nothing about this book makes sense。 And I had no idea this was not a stand-alone book, so just as I was celebrating that it was going to end (finally!) I realized it had no conclusion or resolution whatsoever。 Skip this book。 Never read it。 There are so many great stories and great adventures out there。 This is just definitely not one of them。 。。。more

This is such a great intro-to-chapter-books book。 What I liked: a robot has to interpret her programing without people to tell her what to do- so she becomes a friend to ALL the animals and adopts a Canada goose and has beavers help to build her a home。 Adventure! Accountability! Talking animals! What I didn't like: cliffhanger ending。 Black-and-white illustrations that I deeply wish had been full color。 The fact that it was written for eight year olds and not for me。 This is such a great intro-to-chapter-books book。 What I liked: a robot has to interpret her programing without people to tell her what to do- so she becomes a friend to ALL the animals and adopts a Canada goose and has beavers help to build her a home。 Adventure! Okay, Goodreads, you will have to do better with the rating system。 “How many stars, out of five, would you give to this book?” I asked her, after we read it cover to cover, acknowledgments and all。“One hundred and sixty five”, she replied immediately, then, after a little thought added, “and more。 Yeah。 More。” So there you have it。 Currently one of her favourite books, and I can’t lie, I loved it as well。 It is written for children, but does not pretend they are “tiny idiot humans” – despite it Okay, Goodreads, you will have to do better with the rating system。 “How many stars, out of five, would you give to this book?” I asked her, after we read it cover to cover, acknowledgments and all。“One hundred and sixty five”, she replied immediately, then, after a little thought added, “and more。 Yeah。 More。” So there you have it。 Currently one of her favourite books, and I can’t lie, I loved it as well。 It is written for children, but does not pretend they are “tiny idiot humans” – despite its “let me tell you, dear reader” stylistic approach it does not talk down at the reader, it broaches some pretty serious questions, and does not shirk in the least from showing all the ugly, death-and-suffering parts of nature alongside all its beauty。 Maybe some kids won’t be able to hack it, but more likely, some adults probably imagine that their kids could’t hack it。 A warning is warranted, though, this story of a robot lost in the wilderness ends on a serious cliffhanger, so much so that we’re moving from the paper version of this book onto the Kindle version for part 2 because the just can’t wait for the postal service to deliver part two to see what happens next。Also to be completely honest about it, we gave it a shot a couple of years ago。 She couldn’t follow the story, the vocabulary was beyond her, and she got bored pretty soon, so I suspect if you don’t like it, you are probably not in the right age range。 Now, at 6。5 years old, this was absolutely spot on for both her taste and abilities, and with its themes of relationships and nurture and strange families, it was spot on for mine, too (yes, I did shed a tear or two)。 。。。more

4。5 stars。 Really fantastic and enjoyable read aloud。

Started out as an interesting little tale but then it went downhill quickly。 The story seemed choppy and that made it hard to truly invest myself into the story。 The second half of the book, that I forced myself to read, became just odd and gory。 On a positive note, the illustrations were nice。
